About this website
This website is a hobby project and stems from my passion for fundamental questions in evolutionary biology. My approach to this subject is primarily theoretical and based on computer models, some of which I would like to present on these pages.Acknowledgments
This work - website as well as content, including the models - was carried out privately, independently and without institutional affiliation or funding. (But if anyone is interested in funding or sponsorship, please feel free to contact me ;-)My heartfelt thanks go to Karin and our daughters Salima and Lara for their support, discussions and patience when I repeatedly disappeared into my world of thought experiments and simulated realities.
I would like to thank Prof. Heiner Römer (Graz) for reading parts of this work and for constructive and insightful discussions.
Used tools
For writings and language support, I regularly used DeepL (https://www.deepl.com) and Google Translator (https://translate.google.com), and, to a very limited extent some LLM, like chatgpt (https://chatgpt.com/) and deepseek (https://chat.deepseek.com). However, no AI was used for the design, creation, and analysis of the models, not even for programming.I used NetLogo for the modeling and Gnuplot and LibreOffice for some visualizations. I wrote all the program code myself and without any AI support.
- NetLogo is a open-source programming language and integrated development environment for multi-agent modeling: https://www.netlogo.org
- Gnuplot is a portable command-line driven graphing utility that I used for the creation of most diagrams: http://gnuplot.info
- LibreOffice is a private, free and open source office suite that I also used for some diagrams: https://www.libreoffice.org/
